This past weekend, the St. Regis housed the 27th annual Concours D’Elegance. It’s been a while since I covered a local automotive event so I made my way out there for a few shots. You can view the rest on my automotive coverage site Socal Auto Pics.

I’ve been constantly bouncing around from theme to theme on my blog over the past few months. Unhappy with all the results, I began the search again for something minimalistic, while still containing the the main functionality of a blog. I stumbled upon this blog design that looked quite nice in its stock form, but decided to tear it apart and create my own design. With the help of my friend Edgars, a new blog design was born. Last month, Southern California was hit with a decently sized swell making Wedge a hotspot for the weekend. When the waves pickup the locals flock out. It’s not uncommon to see thousands of people strung across Newport’s coast. I went up on Sunday as the swell was slowly fading, but still quite a few people paddling out. Despite the 4 hours it took to get off the peninsula it was a good time.

It’s finally back and never looked so good.

Today, I upgraded from my 3G handset to the 3GS. Because I was only half way into the 2-year contract I ended up paying $399 for the 16GB White version. Was the upgrade worth it? Probably not. Am I enjoying it? Absolutely.

The Surfrider Foundation recently put out this campaign in order to promote cleaner waters worldwide. A purpose combined with design and execution brought together this wonderful image in order to get the message across. The Surfrider Foundation is a non-profit organization with the sole purpose to protect and provide enjoyment of our world’s oceans, waves and beaches.

I recently picked up some new Speedplay Zero Chromoly pedals and Shimano cycling shoes. I went with Speedplay because I’ve previously ridden on them and enjoy the direct connection and slim look which allows for better cornering. They are fairly light as most of the weight is in the cleats, however it’s still not much. The cleats provide a very good platform when clipped into the pedals for direct power transfer. The 15 degree float is also a plus.

On June 9th, during the WWDC 2009 keynote, Apple introduced the third-generation iPhone called the iPhone 3G S. “S” standing for “Speed”. The handset sports the same design as the current 3G version, but includes many internal hardware revisions along with 3.0 improvements.

First off, the iPhone 3G S now has 256MB of RAM and a 600MHz processor, giving the phone an average of 2x the speed of the current 3G. The increases are up from the 128MB are up from 128MB and 412MHz that were in the first-generation and 3G iPhone. The 3G S also has the new PowerVR SGX graphics chip that supports OpenGL ES 2.0, so the total speed increase will most likely be more than that of the clock speed. This new speed boost coupled with Open GL ES 2.0 should provide a vast realm for developers and their future applications.

A 3MP camera and video recording ability is also available. The camera has been a main complaint among iPhone users since the first-generation was released. Compared to other handsets, the iPhone is still falling behind in this aspect, mainly for being late on these features. It also includes Voice Control, a digital compass, and better battery life (much needed).

So are these enough features to separate the iPhone 3G S from the 3G? In my opinion, no. With that said, I will most likely be unlocking and selling my current 3G and purchasing the 3G S, mainly because I love having the newest iPhone.
